Well connected

Founded in 2004 as UniKid - Network of Children's Offices and Childcare Officers at Austrian universities. The renaming was due to the expansion to include the subject area of care and international networking.

The "Unternehmen für Familien" network was set up by the Federal Ministry for Families and Youth to connect companies and municipalities that are interested in and/or already committed to a family-conscious personnel or municipal policy.

The aim of this project is to improve family friendliness in science. As part of this project, the networking of family service centres and those responsible for family friendliness at German-speaking universities and non-university research institutions will be promoted and stabilised.

The universities in the "Familie in der Hochschule" best practice club see themselves as pioneers in the social development towards more family-orientation and appreciation of diversity. These universities integrate work-life balance into their profile development and regard it as a management and cross-sectional task that must fulfil high standards.
Many member universities in Germany and Austria, including the University of Graz, have already signed the "Familie in der Hochschule" charter. By signing the charter, the organisations make a public commitment to promote the compatibility of family responsibilities with studies, teaching, research and science-supporting activities and to align their organisational and personnel development strategies accordingly.

A family-friendly concept includes various individual measures and projects originating from different departments and institutes - these are summarised and regularly reviewed as part of the hochschuleundfamilie audit. The University of Graz has been awarded the state seal of approval as a family-friendly university.
