Childminders are an option for regular daycare (from 15 hours per week). They look after your child in their home in a small setting and a more familiar atmosphere. This childcare service is not subject to the boundaries of the municipality - children from families living outside Graz can also be cared for. Conditions of the Province of Styria apply to the funding of contributions for this childcare service.

Pre-registration takes place directly via the providers.

Nurseries only care for children up to the age of three, in groups of about 10 children. The starting age varies.

In kindergartens, children ranging from three years to school age are cared for in groups of about 20 children.

The official online pre-registration with the start of childcare in September takes place annually from January to the end of February via the KIPO (Children's Portal of the province of Styria).  

Registration outside of the official registration phase also takes place via KIPO.

Nurseries and kindergartens in Graz are subject to the admission criteria of the City of Graz. The main residence in Graz and the level of  employment of both parents are decisive requirements. The costs are staggered according to family income.

The University of Graz has had child education and child care facilities since 1974. In 1979, 2002, 2008, 2015, 2020 and 2024, cooperations were entered with daycare centre providers and expansions were made.

As a cooperation partner of WIKI, the University of Graz subsidises 12 groups:

Unikrippe (nursery), Heinrichstraße 11 with 4 nursery groups

Gaudeamus Krippe (nursery), Rosenberggürtel 12 with 3 nursery groups

Gaudeamus Kindergarten (kindergarten), Rosenberggürtel 12 with 5 kindergarten groups

These facilities are subject to the admission criteria and registration process of the City of Graz. Confirmation of university affiliation will be required.
